Questions about Nanny | Buying Nanny | Delivery

picHow is Nanny different from other baby monitors?

The Nanny-BM02 is different from the majority of baby breath. monitors as it has been certified as a medical-device and has past hospital testing via clinical trials in Europe and is used in hospital maternity wards. Most monitors have disclaimers on their-packaging stating that are not intended for use as a medical device or for the detection of SIDS or sleep apnoea.

Some Other Differences

  • The Nanny monitor device has been designed so that your baby cannot reach it. This means Nanny cannot be accidentally disabled by your infant.
  • As it is a Medical Device – it may be claimable on some private health insurances..........
  • Nanny Monitor is fully portable - you can simply unclip the main control unit in seconds and go!
  • Nanny has no physical contact with the baby and its sensor does not generate any form of electric field. Its passive sensing has no harmful effect on the human body.
  • Detects the slightest breaths – and will alarm if baby’s breathing drops below 8 breaths per minute or stops breathing for longer than 20 seconds. Please see product specifications for more details on the alarming sequence.
  • Nanny's main control unit is clipped onto the cot and easily accessible. Other baby monitors can't have the control unit mounted on the cot and either has to be placed on the side of the cot on a table, or on the floor. It becomes quite annoying when you constantly keep forgetting to turn it off when you take baby out of the cot. You don't have that problem with Nanny, as it is in plain view, mounted on the cot and easily accessible.
  • Nanny's sensor pad is one of the largest on the market
  • Battery Operated – runs on 2 x AA batteries with a battery life of approx 6 months. There is a low battery indicator on the control unit. (no plugging into mains power which is a danger to other children due to wires running from the cot to the power point).
  • Nanny is supplied with a 2 year warranty. This is one of the longest warranty's on the market.
  • Won the 2006 Baby Gear Gold Award (Voted Best Baby Monitor) – beating the leading baby monitors on the market.
  • The control unit for Nanny has been carefully designed to be clear, quick and easy to understand. There are just three lights. A happy .face, an unhappy face and a battery indicator. Simple and easy to.understand, that's all you need!

picIs Nanny safe to use for my baby?

Yes, NANNY has no physical contact with the baby and it also does not generate any form of energy. Nanny is run on batteries, not from mains power. This is especially useful if there are other inquisitive children in the house that may come into contact with wires and cables that plug into the electrical wall socket.

picWhat does it mean to be medically certified ?

It may be surprising to you to know that most of the popular baby monitors on the market today are NOT medically certified. A fact which is not widely known or realised. This means that the product has not undergone independent clinical trials, or passed tests in a hospital environment in order to achieve certification.

Nanny has been put through stringent tests and meets the standards and regulations associated with medical devices. This gives you as a parent or carer confidence that the Nanny Monitor has been independently tested and is a quality product. Nanny is actually used in Maternity Wards and in hospitals.

We urge to consider this when deciding to purchase your baby monitor.

picCan I claim the Nanny Monitor on my private health insurance ?

The Nanny Monitor is classed as a medical device, and as such may be claimable under your private health insurance. You will need to consult your health fund to find out if it is possible with your level of cover and/or type of health insurance.

picWhat did Nanny get a Gold Award for?

The Nanny Monitor won first prize in the Baby Gear and Toddler 2006 Awards. It was voted the best overall baby monitor and went head to head against the leading baby monitors on the market today. It was put to the test and rated for its ease of use, ease of positioning, reliability, features and value!

picHow do I know which.Baby Monitor is best for my baby?

We have put together this guide to help you make an informed decision when making the vital decision as to which baby monitor is right for your baby.

  • If the breath monitor has a wireless transmitter and receiver, and your neighbours also own the same model, then it is likely that you will be able to trigger each other's alarm units!
  • If the monitor is designed to clip onto your baby's clothing, you should consider that if baby can learn to remove his / her own socks, then clip on monitors could be at risk from being removed by your baby!
  • Has the monitor been medically certified. MOST MONITORS ARE NOT MEDICALLY CERTIFIED! Therefore it has not undergone independent clinical trials in a hospital environment.
  • Does the monitor use mains power? If it does, then other children can come into contact with wires and cables that run under the cot and can pose a safety risk to themselves, and may also disconnect the monitor without your knowledge.
  • Check that the monitor does not have a sealed battery compartment. If it does, then you may be required to return your monitor to the manufacturer for recharging, it is likely you will be charged for this service.
  • If the monitor is shipped with two sensor pads, you should consider the following. Are both pads detachable for easy transportation?
  • Check the product warranty - Most monitors are supplied with a 1 year warranty
  • If the breath monitor has a wireless transmitter and receiver, you may be surprised that the monitor will probably not warn you if the transmitter is out of range. When this happens your monitor will become ineffective and without your knowledge your baby will no longer be protected.
  • If the breath monitor has a wireless transmitter and receiver, check that the wireless connection will not fail if used within buildings that have been constructed with metallic materials (girders, roofs etc).

picDoes Nanny monitor sound?

No, and there is a good reason that it does not.

  • If your transmitter goes out of range, you will not be notified of any pending danger.
  • It is also possible for sound monitors to pick up frequencies of other and like sound monitors from nearby neighbours.
  • Your monitor can give false alarms as it picks up the frequency of your surrounding neighbours monitor.

The Nanny Monitor's alarm is very loud and audible. However, should you require it, you are able to use any generic sound monitoring device, and know with certainty that it will not interfere or affect the Nanny's ability to monitor your infant. You will also have the ability of choosing a sound device that meets your individual requirements and ensures that it covers the range you need.

picDo I need to do regular tests of Nanny? How long does it take?

Yes. You need to regularly test the Nanny Monitor to ensure that it is working and functioning correctly.

This is good practice for any baby monitor. Testing Nanny only takes 20 seconds!

We advise that you need to test the Nanny Monitor as a minimum on a weekly basis. This will ensure that it is always working and monitoring your infant. Also, if you move Nanny for any reason, you need to ensure that it is working and functioning properly by testing it successfully alarms when no infant is in the cot.

picCan Nanny take any action in the event of an alarm?

No. Nanny is not able to take any action in the event of an alarm. Nanny is only a device that monitors the respiration of an infant.

IT DOES NOT, AND CAN NOT TAKE ANY ACTION in the event of an alarm.

It will only sound an audible alarm to which the carer or parent must physically go to the baby and check vital signs and breathing. Therefore it is imperative that the carer or parent is able to hear Nanny's audible alarm from any location. If you can not, you will need to take the necessary precautions in order to do so.

picI have twins. How do I monitor both babies?

To use Nanny to monitor twins, you will need to purchase two separate Nanny Monitors with separate control units. You can NOT use two sensor pads connected to the one control unit to monitor two infants. Purchasing an extra sensor pad for the one control unit will not monitor both infants. Please see What is the purpose of the additional sensor Pad? for further information.

You will need to ensure that both infants are in there own separate cot, and that each cot has its own separate installation of the Nanny Monitor. eg each cot has its own control unit and pad(s).

picWhat is the purpose of the additional sensor pad ?

You are able to purchase an additional sensor pad for your control unit and have been designed for use in the following situations:

  • Portability - you can leave a sensor pad at grandparents house. The control unit is fully portable, you simply unclip and go!
  • Active Babies and larger cots - The Nanny Monitors sensor pad is one of the largest on the market. In most circumstances, one sensor pad is enough.

pic What external factors could impact Nanny?

The Nanny monitor is an extremely sensitive device. It will pick up the slightest of breaths. As with all movement monitors, it is dependent on the fact that there is no other movement in the cot other than the infant that it is monitoring. This is generally the case with all movement monitors, not just Nanny.

We advise that you should NOT have any childrens mobiles and/or other objects / toys attached to the cot or near the cot which could cause movement or vibration. Additionally, if there is floor vibration which in turn vibrates the cot, you will need to remove the cause of any vibration whilst baby is sleeping. Do not place the cot directly under a heating or cooling duct.

Generally, these things can be easily remedied and are even simpler to test for. We want to make sure that your most important and special little infant is being monitored effectively. Please ensure that you test Nanny successfully alerts with no infant in the cot under all conditions in your infants room. It only takes 20 seconds to test! It is so simple!

picWhat is the product life of the Nanny Monitor sensor pad?

We recommend that you replace the sensor pad after two years. You can purchase the sensor pad independently for only a fraction of the cost of a complete monitor.

picDoes Nanny come with a Warranty?

Yes, Nanny comes complete with a 2 year warranty. This is one of the longest warranty's on the market!

As further proof of the confidence in the Nanny Monitor, in the unlikely event that you need a replacement monitor within the first 5 days after receipt of the product, we will pay for the cost of postage to send it back to us.

If you have a warranty claim outside the initial 5 day period after receipt of the product, please note that the cost of shipping the monitor back to us will be at your own cost.
